Typical Tasks & Duties
The role of a Construction Trades Assistant is to work with experienced tradespeople to manufacture truss and wall frames. The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Construction Tradespersons and may assist with general operating tasks and duties in the day to day work activities at the work site.
Task and duties to observe and assist may include but not be limited to the following;
• Plan and organise work.
• Conduct workplace communication.
• Carry out measurements and calculations.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
• Handle construction materials.
• Use construction tools and equipment.
• Prepare areas for manufacturing truss and wall frames.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards the Construction Industry and in particular Construction Trades Assistant with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE Opportunity to develop skills learned from their school study program related to Building and Construction.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (White Card), please note: obtaining the White Card is required prior to attending the work placement.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Hi visual shirt and jumper or jacket.
• Steel capped work boots.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
KMART Mildura is a supplier of appropriate building and construction worksite clothing.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
