As part of the team, students will experience the trade skills required in the workshop, including fabrication, mechanical fitting, industrial electrical and assembly tasks.
This STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING (SWL) PLACEMENT is available for a one-week block.
Skills You Might Learn
Wide variety of engineering skills including welding, measure a job with graduated devices and preform basic calculations, tool recognition. Working as part of a team, effective communication with work colleagues, be organized and a proactive self-starter, be a creative and innovative problem solver, able to follow instructions and work well under pressure.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Student will be assisting tradespeople with all aspects of the operation including reading engineering drawings, collecting materials for jobs, cleaning work spaces, basic welding, MIG, TIG & ARC, grinding, fabrication, manual production, assembly all under supervision.
Student Requirements
Studying Cert 2 Engineering as a VET subject would be an advantage, ability to use power hand tools, motivated to work and learn, safety conscious, physically fit, positive attitude, mechanical aptitude. Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Steel capped safety shoes. Long sleeve overall. and other PPE will be provide according to roll placement.
Special Transport Requirements
Public transport available.
