Work with a leading provider of prefabricated roof trusses, wall frames and posi-struts designed for commercial, residential and owner builders.

With a reputation for excellence in delivering timber frames and trusses throughout Victoria including the Central, Northern and Metropolitan regions, this is a perfect opportunity for students to understand this vital part of the construction fabrication industry. Students will be exposed to the design and detailing aspects of the industry using CAD based software and manufacture and assembly of prefabricated wood trusses.

A keen interest in the fabrication industry is mandatory along with a positive, hardworking attitude, and willingness to learn about manufacturing processes.

Whilst on placement student may have the opportunity to develop general skills including:

And specific skills that may include understanding:
• Use of design technology
• Interpreting workplace documents and plans
• Measuring and cutting processes
• The use of hand tools and equipment
• Ability to work in dusty and/or noisy environments


Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks on the placement will vary depending on the current job, and on each student's areas of interest. Under the supervision of qualified staff tasks may include:
• Observing truss design using CAD based software
• Reading truss frame fabrication plan
• Assisting with order allocation and laying out required materials
• Assisting with verification of material dimensions
• Working on the truss table which involves hammering plates into place
• Assisting with moving cut lumber for shipment

Student Requirements

Students are required to have a keen interest in the fabrication industry, be enthusiastic, have a willingness to learn, and be able to follow instructions.

Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Safety boots, and appropriate work clothes e.g., long pants and shirt. PPE will be provided specific to the job role.

Special Transport Requirements

Public transport is available.
