Skills You Might Learn
Students will learn industry terminology and techniques required to work in the industry. You will also learn how to interact with work colleagues and will be supervised by qualified mechanics, skills attained may include the following:
• Hands on experience as a diesel mechanic
• Knowledge and understanding of diesel engine maintenance and repair
• Knowledge of different tools and equipment
• Understanding of safety regulations and standards
• Tidying, set up and pack up of work areas
Typical Tasks & Duties

• Observing day to day activities on a range of engines/vehicles e.g., servicing including oil changes, preventative maintenance, and repairing faults
• Assisting qualified staff with tools and material selection
• Testing malfunctioning equipment and identifying defects
• Repairing equipment
• Troubleshooting
Student Requirements
This work placement is for students interested in diesel mechanics, students must have good attention to detail, demonstrate a good work ethic, and willingness to learn.
Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Students will be provided the necessary work clothing to be able to carry out the placement. A sizing guide will be supplied at form signing. Please ensure you supply your own steel cap work boots.
