Maryborough Harness Racing Club hosts 31 day harness racing meetings each year and is one of Victoria's premier Country Harness Racing Clubs, the track is critically acclaimed and has excellent public facilities.
This opportunity is a unique opportunity to experience the workings of a day racing meeting over a period of 8 days and seeing all of the elements that make up a race day.
This STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING (SWL) PLACEMENT is available for a one-week block. Dates to be negotiated.
Skills You Might Learn
Workplace communication, Teamwork, problem solving, self management, time management, interpersonal and social skills, working effectively in the equine industry, health and safety practices around horses, horse care and handling.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will support to MHRC Secretary and assist him with duties such as liaison with Committee members, volunteers, owners, trainers, drivers, stewards and race caller.
Work safely in an equine organisation, observe horse health and welfare practices, work effectively in the Equine Industry, understand basic emergency life support, and in some circumstances handle horses.
Student Requirements
Students will need to be studying Equine or Animal Studies,be involved with horses or be interested in horses.
Dress Requirements
Casual work clothes,no ripped or torn clothes,no thongs or sports clothes.
Special Transport Requirements
Students will need to find transport to the venue as no public transport is available.
