Our state-of-the-art dental practice offers an on-site laboratory where your needs can be promptly addressed, often on the same day. Bridges, crowns, dentures, and mouthguards will all be created for you by our experienced technicians. X-ray facilities are also on-site for your convenience so that you won't need to be sent elsewhere for imaging. Tankard Dental Clinic locations are Mildura, Irymple, Robinvale and Ouyen.
Tankard Dental have an exciting Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) in Dental Assisting as a Dental Nurse Assistant. The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE, VCE-VM, VPC student studying to become a Dental Nurse. A student studying the a VET Health or Allied Health Assistance subject as part of their study program would be highly regarded.
Work placement Location: Tankard Dental Mildura Practice, 155 Langtree Avene, Mildura.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As a Dental Nurse Assistant, you would assist the Dental Nurses in the services at the dental practice. The student will work under direct supervision within the work environment.
The student may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Communicate and work in health or community services.
• Work with diverse people.
• Prepare for and assist with dental procedures.
• Assist with dental radiography.
• Assist with administration in dental practice.
• Process reusable medical devices and equipment.
• Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control.
• Participate in workplace health and safety.
• Use business software applications.
• Work effectively with others.
• Use medical terminology in health care.
• Work effectively with others.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements of the business.
• Apply and adhere to cleaning and general housekeeping as instructed.
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the work placement as instructed.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Health Industry as a Dental Nurse Assistant or Allied Health Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VDSS subject relating to Health or Allied Health Assistance.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Health Industry as a Dental Nurse Assistant or Allied Health Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
It is a requirement for the student to provide the following evidence prior to a placement commencing.
• National Police Check.
• Working with Children’s Check (if 18 or over, years of age)
• Vaccination History.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present in a neat and hygienic manner in the following work attire;
• Neat professional attire with full length work pants.
• Enclosed footwear, flat and non-slip.
• Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept short and clean.
• Note: Tankard Dental uniform (shirt) will be supplied.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
