Established in 2004 the company is a custom construction workshop based in Melbourne, Australia. They service many varied industries looking for bespoke design and construction solutions, from theatre and television, public events, exhibitions and advertising through to large scale commercial entertainment venues. They have the ability to work with most materials and offer end to end service from design to installation nationally and internationally.

A bit of insight into what work experience would be like at Onset Arts: A typical work experience week at Onset consists of 5 days working across their workshop departments: Build, Paint and CNC. The types of tasks undertaken would include learning how to cut, finish and sand wooden set parts, paint sets and shadowing their CNC cutting team as they produce custom cut wood and acrylic parts.


Skills You Might Learn

Students will be working as part of the team. There are opportunities to gain a variety of experience in welding, fabrication, timber construction, and electrical work. As safety considerations are paramount these skills will be gained whilst observing and assisting the trades people.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Student will be assisting trades people with all aspects of the operation including sanding, painting, reading engineering drawings, collecting components for jobs, cleaning work spaces, observing/assisting in various wood fabrication, electrical and packing of customer orders under supervision. Using cordless sanders and cordless drill tools.

Student Requirements

This work placement will suit a student who is keen and wants to experience a variety of roles, working alongside experienced professionals. Bring your communication and problem solving skills.

Work clothing, Steel toe cap boots/shoes
