Health Support Services
Grampians Health Services - Ballarat
This 5-day placement, running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day, offers students hands-on exposure to a variety of functions within the Support Services stream of a healthcare environment. The program provides opportunities to observe and engage in key areas, including
- Environmental services (cleaning and maintenance)
- Catering (food services, kitchen)
This program allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of how different departments work together to deliver quality care and services.

Typical Tasks & Duties
All tasks will include hands-on activities, and a specific schedule of tasks will be provided to successful placement recipients.
- Communications: Supporting the development and distribution of communication materials or assisting with marketing initiatives.
- Patient Interaction: Engaging with patients, under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
- Administrative Tasks: Helping with non-clinical tasks such as filing, scheduling, or managing records.
This diverse range of tasks provides students with a hands-on experience, helping them develop practical skills across multiple areas of healthcare.
Student Requirements

- Preference is given to students currently studying a VET or related subject or who have displayed an interest in this field
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures. Non-compliance will result in placement being immediately terminated.
- Students must complete the work placement logbook on a daily basis.
Dress Requirements
To maintain a professional and safe environment, please adhere to the dress code by wearing smart, neat attire - long pants, short sleeved shirt (polo), and enclosed comfortable shoes. NO JEWELLERY IS TO BE WORN.
Acceptable options: Long pants paired with a polo top or shirt. Cardigans or light jackets are fine.
Preferred option: A school uniform polo top.
Unacceptable options: Clothes with non-school logos or inappropriate designs.
Special Transport Requirements
Public bus transport to both sites (Ballarat Base Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Centre) is available.
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace.
