Grampians Health: Horsham - Allied Health Work Experience Program
This 5-day placement, running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day, offers students hands-on exposure to a variety of clinical and allied health fields. Students will gain valuable insight into different healthcare areas, including:
• Occupational Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Urgent Care
• Podiatry
• Speech Pathology
• Diabetes Care
Throughout the program, students will observe and engage with healthcare professionals, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the diverse roles and responsibilities in the clinical and allied health sectors.

Typical Tasks & Duties
During the placement, students may participate in a variety of hands-on tasks, including:
• Healthcare Documentation: Learning how to accurately document patient information and understanding its role in patient care.
• Observation and Shadowing: Observing healthcare professionals in action, learning how they interact with patients and provide treatments.
• Administrative and Support Tasks: Assisting with non-clinical duties such as scheduling appointments and filing patient records.
• Learning Medical Terminology: Gaining knowledge of key health terms, basic anatomy and relevant concepts in allied health practices.
• Patient Interaction (Under Supervision): Assisting with basic patient-related tasks, under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
• Hands-on Activities (If Applicable): Assisting with basic physical tasks, like preparing equipment or setting up treatment rooms, under supervision.
These tasks provide students with practical experience, helping them understand the roles these professions play in patient care and healthcare delivery.

- Students are required to have an interest in a career in the Healthcare Sector
- Preference is given to students currently studying a related subject or who have displayed an interest in this field
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
Dress Requirements
To maintain a professional and safe environment, please adhere to the dress code by wearing smart, neat attire with short sleeves (polo), enclosed, comfortable shoes and no jewellery.
Acceptable options: Pants paired with a polo top or shirt. Cardigans or light jackets are fine.
Preferred option: A school uniform polo top.
Unacceptable options: Clothes with non-school logos or inappropriate designs.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace.
