Grampians Health is offering two Structured Workplace Learning placements during the Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 Victorian school holiday period.
Interested students must:
* be currently studying a Cert III in Allied Health Assistance, with satisfactory attendance and results, and

Students who successfully meet the application criteria will be contacted to attend an interview, and of the interviewees, 2 will be selected to undertake the SWL placement.

This 10-day, 2-week placement, running from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Friday, offers students hands-on exposure to a variety of Allied Health Assistant roles. Throughout the program, students will observe and gain valuable insights into these essential operational areas, building practical skills and understanding their critical role in supporting our organisation.

Skills You Might Learn

Students may attain the following skills:
o Communicate and work in a health service
o Participate in workplace health and safety
o Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
o Organise personal work priorities
o Provide first aid
o Assist with movement
o Work with diverse people
o Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
o Recognise healthy body systems
o Observe and learn telehealth technology

Upon successful completion of the program, students may obtain:
• Workplace recognition towards Cert III qualification/Statement of Attainment.
• Exposure to various professions within Grampians Health
• Broad understanding of the many career pathways available
• Development of communication and interpersonal skills
• Time management, punctuality and workplace behaviour expectations
• Understanding of infection control and hygiene requirements
• Teamwork and collaboration skills
• Awareness of workplace safety and compliance standards
• Understanding of the importance of attention to detail in daily tasks

Typical Tasks & Duties

During the placement, students may participate in a variety of hands-on tasks, including:

• assisting with therapy
• equipment maintenance
• preparation prior to and clearing/ tidying after a session alongside a qualified Allied Health Assistant or Allied Health Professional.

These tasks provide students with practical experience and a deeper understanding of the essential contributions of support services to healthcare.

The 2 students who are successfully selected to undertake the SWL placement will be required to:
- adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures. (Non-compliance will result in placement being immediately terminated).
- complete the work placement logbook on a daily basis.

Dress Requirements

To maintain a professional and safe environment, please adhere to the dress code by wearing smart, neat attire - long pants, short sleeved shirt (polo), and enclosed comfortable shoes. NO JEWELLERY IS TO BE WORN.

Acceptable options: Long pants paired with a polo top or shirt. Cardigans or light jackets are fine.
Preferred option: A school uniform polo top.
Unacceptable options: Clothes with non-school logos or inappropriate designs.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. Public bus transport to both sites (Ballarat Base Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Centre) is available. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace.
