Work Experience program outline and expectations:
Source a range of workplaces as options for the students to choose from with students attending the workplace in small groups (of 2-5 students) for 2 days as part of a 5 day program.
Businesses will be asked to consider possible challenges, problems or opportunities that could be meaningful for students to consider. These could be big topics (eg. we want to target a new customer segment) or small topics (eg. the plaque on the reception desk keeps falling over!). If possible, tasks could be related to a clean energy solution for the business.
Students will have been given strategies, skills and resources during day 1 of their program to assist them with their placement.
Day 2 &3, students will attend the workplace for 2 consecutive days and will need to have an escorted tour and be introduced to employees appropriate to the task they have been set. (This task can be discussed with staff at HWLLEN and Whittlesea Tech School prior to the work experience week to enable us to support the students throughout).
Students will spend Day 4 and 5 of the program at the Whittlesea Tech School to work on their ideas and prototypes in response to the task set.
Representatives from the workplaces are invited during the afternoon of Day 5 for the students to deliver their pitch and project presentations.
