Charlie’s Engineering have an exciting Work Experience Opportunity (WE Opportunity) in Engineering - Mechanical Trade as an Engineering Mechanical Trades Assistant. The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student.
Work placement Location: 5 Scott Crescent, Mildura.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As an Engineering Mechanical Trades Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Engineering Mechanical Trades Workers assisting with general tasks and duties in the day to day work activities at the work place.
The student may observe and assist with the following tasks and duties;
• Apply occupational health and safety principles in an engineering environment.
• Safely use hand tools and handheld power tools for general engineering applications.
• Interpret and prepare basic two and three dimensional engineering drawings.
• Reading and interpreting routine information on written job instructions, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
• Perform basic machining processes.
• Apply basic fabrication techniques.
• Undertake a basic engineering project.
• Perform intermediate engineering computations.
• Perform basic welding and thermal cutting processes.
• Following job instructions.
• Following verbal instructions.
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the work placement as instructed.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards the Manufacturing Industry as an Engineering Mechanical Trades Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future Work Experience placement to develop skills learned from their subjects relating to Engineering Studies.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Manufacturing Industry as an Engineering Mechanical Trades Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Full length work pants.
• Hi visual long shirt - engineering trade.
• Steel capped work boots.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
