Euston Club Resort

Euston is a historic and scenic Murray River town in south-western New South Wales, Australia. The town lies just downstream of Robinvale (Victoria) and is skirted by the Sturt Highway from Adelaide and Mildura to Sydney and Canberra. The natural beauty of the Murray with it’s towering gums serves as the ultimate enhancement for the club and township. The club is nestled amongst the river red gums, on the banks of the mighty Murray. With approximately five acres of grounds and facilities, the Euston Club offers both visitors and locals alike, a whole host of great options or accommodation, entertainment and business, relaxation and recreation.

The microgrid that Vellocet Clean Energy developed for Euston Club Resort is a first for the NSW Clubs industry. The system runs reliably in automatic mode – charging the battery in the off peak tariff period overnight – using the battery and solar to supply 100% of the load from 7am to 10pm. Euston Club Resort Management are excited about this achievement and is enjoying a more reliable, economical and clean energy supply.

The Euston Club Resort have an exciting Work Experience Opportunity (WE Opportunity) as a Chef Assistant. The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student.

Work placement Location: The Euston Club Resort, Nixon Street, Euston.

Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Chef Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified kitchen staff including Qualified Chefs before during and after food service times. The student will be under direct supervision within the kitchen work environment.

The student may observe and assist with the following tasks and duties;
• Wash, peel and chop vegetables or fruit.
• Transfer, weigh and check supplies and equipment.
• Prepare ingredients for cooking, and prepare salads, savouries and sandwiches.
• Prepare and present simple dishes for service.
• Set up food and beverage trays for serving to customers.
• Cook, toast and heat food items as instructed.
• Use hygienic practices for food safety.
• Clean kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Clean cooking and general utensils used in kitchens and restaurants such as cutlery or dishes.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements of the business.
• Apply and adhere to cleaning and general housekeeping of the kitchen to hygiene standards as instructed.
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the work placement as instructed.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards the Hospitality Industry as a Chef Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their secondary school subjects relating to Cookery.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Hospitality Industry as a Chef Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

It is a requirement for the student to provide the following evidence prior to a placement commencing.
• Food Handlers Certificate.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in a neat and hygienic manner in the following work attire;
• Neat professional attire with full length work pants.
• Enclosed footwear, flat and non-slip.
• Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept short and clean.
• Note: The Euston Club Resort uniform (shirt) will be supplied.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
