Are you looking to enter the landscape industry, or perhaps get a taste of the trade before undertaking an apprenticeship? This SWL opportunity is designed to give you the core skills and training for the industry and introduce you to various aspects of landscape construction. As a hands-on course, you`ll learn mowing, weeding, weed spray, pruning roses, inspection for pest, turning over garden beds, general property clean-ups and any other maintenance jobs.
Skills You Might Learn
This placement provides students with the required skills and knowledge for a supporting job role in the landscape industry as a landscape labourer.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Student on placement will participate in work health and safety processes and may actively engage with the following tasks and duties:
- Plant trees and shrubs
- Install aggregate paths
- Help construct low-profile timber or modular retaining walls
- Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
- Identify and recognise plants
- Operate basic machinery and equipment
Student Requirements
This placement is suitable for Year 11 and Year 12 students studying Landscape and or Horticulture.
Dress Requirements
Students to dress in heavy duty clothes suitable for outdoor environments. This will include long pants and long sleeve shirt, and sturdy shoes (preferably heavy duty / steel capped). Jewellery to be removed prior to placement.
Special Transport Requirements
Travel Form may be required to enable student to move between sites. To be discussed with the employer during interview.
