Boroondara Sports Complex
Boroondara Sports Complex are happy to host students who have an interest in Sport and Recreation or studying VET in Sport & Rec. The Centre consists of a gym, aquatic area and tennis courts. During placement you will be exposed to reception, memberships, timetabling, aquatics and fitness instructing. Students are required to obtain a Working with Children Check (Free) and a First Aid Certificate with CPR. Two non-family references (school contacts are acceptable) must also be provided.
This placement aligns with Certificate III in Sport & Recreation via the
following Units of Competency:
SISXCCS001 Provide quality service
SISXCAI006 Facilitate groups
BSBWOR301 Organise personal work priorities and development

Skills You Might Learn
Team work, communication skills, coaching skills, sales techniques, running a fitness session, exercise based session planning, occupational health and safety skills, correct use of exercise equipment.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Tasks and duties may be tailored to the student’s needs/interest. The Centre consists of a gym, aquatic areas and courts. Students can expect to be exposed to reception, memberships, aquatics, timetabling, fitness instructing etc.
Student Requirements
Students should have an interest in sport. They should also be enthusiastic and willing to learn, punctual, have neat presentation and a polite manner.
Once IELLEN has approved your application, your next steps are:
1. Phone interview with the employer
2. Background and reference checks are performed by the Centre. Students must be ready to provide two names and contact details (non-family members such as school teachers, coaches, etc.)
3. After the checks are completed, you will need to create and fill out a profile on Better Impact, an online system the Centre uses to manage volunteers/placements/work experience. We will send you a document with instructions on how to set up your profile.
4. Next step is completing the following Certifications:
- Complete the "Feel Safe Be Safe" online training module (https://training.ymca.org.au/login/signup.php)
- Obtain a Volunteer WWCC (even if you are under 18)
- Provide evidence of First aid and CPR Training. If you are a student doing VET at school (Certificate III in Sport & Rec)
you may have already done this as part of your unit HLTAID011
- Provide First Aid. Otherwise, you will need to organise and complete First Aid training on your own.
5. Provide evidence of the Certifications above to your contact person

Dress Requirements
Black pants and a black polo/t-shirt. A name badge will be provided.
