Skills You Might Learn

Students will learn what it's like to work in a busy local florist. This includes learning about a range of flower varieties and how they are best displayed in floral bouquets. Students will learn customer service skills, how to understand the needs of the customer and how to provide a high level of service.

Typical Tasks & Duties

During this placement students will have an opportunity to watch and learn the many daily tasks and duties undertaken in a busy florist. This includes planning, designing and arranging the supply, storage and arrangement of flowers, foliage and decorations, using a variety of tools and containers to select, trim, treat and store flowers to extend their life and advising customers on selection of flowers, wreaths and bouquets, in addition to packing, wrapping and organising delivery of floral arrangements.

Student Requirements

To get the most out of this placement, students should have a strong interest in floristry. While working in a retail environment students should be respectful, courteous and professional. Students must be punctual and notify their supervisor if they cannot attend or are running late.

Neat casual with closed toed shoes.
