This is an exciting opportunity for students studying Certificate III in Laboratory Skills to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, develop critical technical skills, and explore potential career paths in science or agribusiness. Students will also gain an understanding of the role of soil health in food production and how it impacts food quality and safety.
Agpath is a private soil biology company providing laboratory testing in many fields of fungal and microbial pathology and farming consulting services in agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, industrial hemp, environment air and water, and food manufacturing.

Skills You Might Learn

This placement will help students develop a diverse set of skills including how to maintain a sterile environment, use microscopes correctly, prepare samples, data collection and record keeping. Students can also develop soft skills such as effective communication, teamwork and problem solving.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment ensuring that all equipment is clean, functional and ready for use.
Preparing specimens, samples and solutions for testing.
Assisting technicians in setting up and conducting experiments.
Perform basic tests under supervision.
Data collection and record keeping.
Adhere to safety protocols.

Students should approach this opportunity with a positive attitude, be eager to learn and open to new challenges.
Students must wear clean shoes not worn on another property to ensure no cross contamination. Students will also be required to wear a lab coat during placement and adhere to strict operational protocols. Laboratory gowns are provided. As are safety glasses and gloves.
