SWL opportunity available for 1 student per term for 1 day per week placement in the Track & Maintenance Team. BGRC conducts race meetings on a sand track 3 times per week as well as trials 3 days per week. The workday (8-hour shifts) could start at 5:30am or finish at midnight depending on our schedule. We operate 5 days per weeks on a range of machinery maintenance and gardening projects. Cleaning with chemicals and grounds maintenance is also part of the work undertaken by our small team.

Typical Tasks & Duties
• Preparing a satisfactory and consistent racing and trialling surface in accordance with Club and Greyhound Racing Victoria standards. • Setting up and maintaining track infrastructure and race day equipment such as starting boxes, lure system, lure rail and safety rail, catching pen and gates, perimeter fencing and access gates. • Maintaining grounds through fertilising, mowing, trimming, pruning, and watering to ensure plants are healthy, safe, and attractive. • Completing all related cleaning and set up and pack away tasks as assigned by the workplace supervisor, including cleaning of kennels and facilities. • Engaging with customers at greyhound race meetings, including assisting with running trials, under the guidance of your work supervisor.
Student Requirements
Students are required to attend an informal interview and introduction at the BGRC – Morshead Park at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the placement.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. Protective, industrial clothing including safety boots will be required. A hat and sunscreen are essential for working outdoors. Appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with WHS policy and work procedures. PPE will be provided.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace.
