Eureka Centre Ballarat is a Local Government operated cultural facility located in Ballarat Victoria. The primary aim of the centre is to promote life-long learning. It aims to build a reputation for learning through its high-quality exhibitions, research, school and university programs and public programs. Institutional collaborations reinforce the Eureka Centre’s reputation as the principal custodian and advocate of the history of the Eureka Stockade.
Skills You Might Learn
On completion of a placement at the Eureka Centre the student will have gained:
* general awareness of cultural institutions and employment opportunities within the museum sector
* enhanced customer service and program delivery skills
* understanding of work quality expectation within the workplace
* site awareness and health and safety principles
* an awareness of expected collegial behaviour, and
* a variety of technical skills dependent on their interest area.
Typical Tasks & Duties

Students completing work placement at the Eureka Centre will work with the Education and Public Programs team. Tasks may include:
* undertaking research
* help record public events
*completing copy editing work etc.
Interested students would be required to do a meet-and-greet/interview prior to acceptance.
Student Requirements

Interested students must be prepared to complete a meet-and-greet interview with the Eureka Education staff. If successful, students may then be offered a placement, subject to workplace availability.
Students seeking placements must also:
• Have a good attitude, and be punctual, reliable, trustworthy and responsible
• Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Work well with others in a team and independently.
• Have an enthusiastic and engaged attitude.
• No age/year level requirement but must be able to conduct themselves in a professional compacity.
• Must be able to bring their own device/laptop if they own one, and charger (Eureka Centre may be able to provide student with a device if contacted prior).
• Must be able to sign a photography waiver and agree for their photo to be used (this is a requirement as they will likely complete work recording events), or if they are under 18 be able to have a parent or guardian sign.
It is preferable that students seeking this placement are studying one of the following subjects or have a general interest in: Humanities, Theatre Studies, Education, Media and Communication or Community Engagement.
Dress Requirements
Students are expected to maintain a professional appearance while at the Eureka Centre in accordance with City of Ballarat Dress Code. Preferred slacks rather than jeans. No hems shorter than knee length. Sleeves at minimum t-shirt length. Preferred no emblems/logos or graphic writing on any clothing. Closed toe shoes are essential. Please note: the Eureka Centre can be cold, and we suggest students bring a suitable coat/jumper.

Eureka Centre is located at 102 Stawell Street South, Eureka (Ballarat).

Car Parking:
There is a staff carpark at the rear of the building. Please note, this car park is not close to the main entrance and requires walking along unsealed paths.
Additional parking is available at the Stawell Street side of the building, close to the main entrance. Two accessible car parking spots are available in this car park, close to the main entrance.
