Typical Tasks & Duties

- Daily Animal Care: You'll be responsible for the daily care of our animals, including feeding them a balanced diet, cleaning their enclosures, and grooming them to keep them healthy and happy.
- Animal Handling and Training: You'll assist in handling and training our animals, learning how to interact with them safely and confidently. You might even get to help with training sessions or shows!
- Maintaining a Safe Environment: You'll help ensure that the animals' living spaces are clean, safe, and stimulating, contributing to their overall wellbeing.
- Supporting the Team: You'll be an important part of the Feathers N Things team, assisting the business owners with various tasks, such as preparing for educational programs, setting up for animal encounters, and caring for equipment.
- Out and About with Animals: You might have the opportunity to accompany the animals to off-site events or programs, showcasing them to the community and educating others about these amazing creatures.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their Work-Related Skills subject and/or school studies.

The following requirements must be met:
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- General module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss uniform requirements with the employer at the preplacement interview. Students will be expected to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the workplace, sturdy closed in toe and heal shoes are essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by the employer for tasks involving cleaning and maintenance activities.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
