Fur Life Vet’s mission is to provide compassionate care and quality veterinary medicine for all. They’re committed to building lifelong relationships with owners and their ‘fussiest’ patients so they can provide care, assistance and enrich the lives of both animal lovers and their pets.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students seriously interested in working in the veterinary industry, where they will learn from local skilled Nurses/Vets by observing some of the practical and logistical components and gain an insight into the industry and what a day-to-day routine would be like in a busy clinic environment.

Please note, this opportunity is at 167 Eaglehawk Road, Bendigo.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an overall understanding of the veterinary industry and may have the opportunity to attain general employability skills such as:
• Workplace communication in real life scenarios
• Teamwork
• Following instruction and working under supervision
• Self-management (punctuality and presentation)
• Liaising and working with colleagues, customers, and suppliers

Students may also attain industry specific skills from industry qualified and experienced professionals including:
• Assessment processes and basic first aid
• Understanding of infection control policies, procedures and routines
• Industry specific OH&S and environmentally sustainable work practices
• Basic understanding of medical terminology
• Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation
• Communicating with clients, colleagues and animals!

Typical Tasks & Duties

Student tasks and duties will vary depending on the needs of the clinic at the time of placement.
Typical tasks and duties may include:
· Assisting in animal weigh-ins on arrival
· Assisting with feeding and watering animals
· Washing and grooming animals
· Shadowing the vet nurse to learn techniques and industry standards
· Observing treatments and assisting where appropriate
· Attending Vet/Nurse consultations with clients and their owners
· Changing and washing bedding (using the washing machine/dryer, hanging up and folding)
· Cleaning tasks including examination rooms, animal cages, sweeping floors and ad hoc requests
· Replenishing and/or rotating stock
· Making puppy and kitten packs
· Cuddling anxious animals and assisting with feeding

Student Requirements

Students should have a keen interest in working with animals! Arrive on time, be willing to listen and learn, and show initiative.
Students are to provide bank details at form signing for payment.
Students should discuss their placement workbook on the first day, so staff are aware of what needs to be completed.

Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.



Dress Requirements

Neat, casual clothing, neat casual dark coloured pants, sleeved shirt (no logos/weather dependent), and closed in shoes e.g., sneakers. If hair is longer than shoulder length it must be tied back, and no dangly jewellery.
Please follow any other employer instructions discussed at form signing.
