Hamilton Community House
Neighbourhood Houses are local organisations that provide social, educational and recreational activities for their communities in a welcoming supportive environment.
They offer many opportunities for volunteer participation in all aspects of the house activities and management. Activities are generally run at low or no cost to participants.
This opportunity is for a special project to engage a group of students in the Hamilton Community House programs and projects. It will provide the students with a supported work placement to build their workplace skills.
Skills You Might Learn
Development of work readiness skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, self-management, planning and organising, technology, initiative and enterprise.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Variety of tasks and duties to be developed and shaped by the students with the supervisor.
Tasks may include:
maintenance jobs such as painting small items
IT trouble shooting
preparation of children's activities for the HIRL market
developing promotional flyers and distributing them around town
sewing
cooking
administrative tasks
building small items
support with school projects, tasks, homework
social development and support
Student Requirements
Students to attend weekly and punctually.
Students to be ready to engage with, and contribute to the programs.
Dress Requirements
Neat casual clothes
Closed toe shoes.
Please bring coverup (apron or similar) for painting/cooking
Special Transport Requirements
School to confirm arrangements for students to travel to and from Hamilton Community House.
