Locally owned and operated this precision building company has extensive experience in building new homes, major restorations and additions to period and heritage buildings, renovations, outdoor areas and commercial work. Family run, and keen to support student placements they are offering a valuable opportunity for students to gain skills and experience on a wide range of building projects.
This Work Experience placement is available for a one-week block, dates to be negotiated.
Skills You Might Learn
Students may have the chance to develop skills/understanding in:
- OH&S specific skills and workplace safety skills
- Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
- Knowledge of building maintenance
- Calculations for the building trade
- How to read a plan
- Site preparation, setting out and framing
- Communication skills and,
- Working with a small team setting
Typical Tasks & Duties
Whilst on placement, depending on the job typical tasks may include:
• Site preparation
• Reading drawings
• Observing the use of hand /power tools
• Measuring, cutting and joining timber framing
• Assist with fitting exterior wall cladding and window frames
• Site set up and clean up
• General manual labour as required
Student Requirements
The student must be keen to learn the building trade, be punctual, willing to listen and learn, follow all worksite OHS.
Student must have White Card
Dress Requirements
The student must wear protective clothing, safety footwear (steel cap boots), ear and eye protection, hat and sunscreen.
Special Transport Requirements
Public transport available, if working in other locations transport will be provided (transport form needs to be completed and signed)
