Skills You Might Learn
Whilst on placement students may observe:
· Reading drawings and plans
· Use of engineering technology
· How steel is used to produce a wide range of products
· How to move and manipulate steel and related products
· How the various teams work together to manufacture products
· How to liaise and work with colleagues, supervisors, clients and suppliers
· Measuring and calculating, observing welding, cutting and grinding

Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will have the opportunity to observe skilled trades people involved in various stages of metal fabrication and welding, these tasks may include:
· Meeting with designers and other engineers to discuss plans for products
· Reading plans and drawings
· Selecting the correct materials and tools for projects
· Using fabrication technology
· Observing steel cutting, welding, grinding and painting
· Cleaning the workshop, unloading products, and general duties as required
Student Requirements
Students must have a keen interest in engineering and product manufacture. Mobile phones must not be used during placement and can only be used on breaks or at lunch
Dress Requirements
Student to wear industry appropriate work wear and safety boots e.g., long sleeved top and pants.
