CDV Bricklaying
This is a unique opportunity to work one-on-one with an experienced local bricklayer from CDV Bricklaying. Students will get real insight into the day-to-day work of a self-employed bricklayer on live residential or commercial job sites, learning the basics of the trade and what it’s like to run your own small business in construction.
Skills You Might Learn
Understanding of core bricklaying processes and site preparation
Increased self-reliance, initiative, and communication skills
Learn how to manage time, materials, and tools as a sole trader
Typical Tasks & Duties
Assist with preparing materials, carrying bricks, and mixing mortar
Help with setup and pack-up at each site
Observe professional bricklaying techniques up close
Support with cleaning tools and maintaining a safe workspace
Student Requirements
Strong interest in construction or outdoor manual work
Physically capable of lifting and moving materials
Willing to listen, follow instructions, and work independently when required
Reliable and punctual, as you’ll be working closely with one tradesperson
Dress Requirements
Steel-capped boots
Long pants and work-appropriate top (preferably hi-vis)
Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
Special Transport Requirements
Students to meet at pre-arranged address in Portland for travel with CDV to site.
