If you’re enthusiastic about the hospitality industry and want to learn about food and services, this is the placement for you!

An opportunity exists at this leadings sport, hospitality and event facility, the region’s premium sporting and entertainment precinct and largest indoor stadium outside metropolitan Melbourne. Built in 1976 the stadium has undergone major developments to meet the growing demands for indoor sporting and entertainment facilities and now offers 10 indoor multipurpose courts and 12 outdoor courts, and a spectacular 4,000 sear show court arena.

Operating a restaurant, sports bar, café, canteen and catering for functions big and small this is an ideal opportunity to learn about all aspects of the food and catering industry. This placement is suitable for students at any level of experience, studying either VET Hospitality, Kitchen Operations or similar.

This opportunity is for a one-week block, dates to be negotiated via the GLLEN

Working under the direct supervision of skilled staff, students may develop/enhance industry skills in the following areas:
· Listening and carrying out duties as requested
· Front of house skills e.g., greeting and seating customers
· Basic food preparation
· Barista skills, depending on your area of interest
· Safe food handling
· Hospitality OH&S

Typical Tasks & Duties

You will observe and learn from industry qualified, experienced hospitality staff in the service of food and non-alcoholic beverages, whilst on placements students may undertake tasks including:
· Greeting people and conversing in a friendly, customer service manner
· Basic food preparation
· Care and use of kitchen/food preparation equipment
· General cleaning and set up and pack away tasks
· Organising table set up and food service
· Preparation for events and functions

Student may progress to more advanced tasks such as portioning, assisting with meal preparation (and observe the full process from beginning to end) and other food pre-preparation, and events related tasks depending upon skill progression and areas of interest.

Student Requirements

Students must have a genuine interest in hospitality, a positive can-do attitude, be self-motivated, and a willing team player who is looking to develop their cooking/service skills.
Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Students need to wear neat, comfortable clothing appropriate for the industry and closed-in shoes e.g., comfortable black pants and either a black or white sleeved top.
