Typical Tasks & Duties
As a Library Assistant you will have the opportunity to assist the Librarian with all aspects of running the library. The student will observe and may assist whilst spending time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Librarians assisting with general tasks and duties in the day to day work activities. You may provide support to students under supervision while practicing and embracing the school's values.
The student may undertake the following tasks;
- Assisting students in the Library.
- Organise and complete daily work activities.
- Participate in workplace health and safety.
- Organising material and information.
- Assisting with borrows and return.
- Build library displays.
- Participate in reading with students.
- General administrative duties.
- Cataloguing books.
- Provide first point of contact.
- Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks.
- Keeping the library neat and tidy.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Education and Teaching as a Library Assistant with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE Opportunity to develop skills learned from their school study program relating to Business, Community Services or Early Childhood Education and Care.
Whilst the students is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
Important Note: the student must adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and be respectful at all times.
Dress Requirements
The student must be well presented and is required to wear clothing as follows;
- Flat, non-slip, enclosed shoes as work shoes.
- Clothes to be neat, professional clothes to be worn as if you were going to work.
- Denim, leggings, torn clothing and inappropriate slogans are not acceptable.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
