• The science of how livestock react to humans, and how to negotiate that relationship (attained through learning low stress stock management techniques) which is essential for not just saleyards, but for Cattle/sheep properties as well!

Typical Tasks & Duties

A day with Outcross may look a little like the following, but tasks will vary from day-to-day dependant on varying market demands.
You will support the team at the saleyards from 7am with drafting and penning of stock (Cattle and Sheep) and then scanning/retagging, if required, of stock to support the obligations of the National Livestock Identification System. Scanning will require learning the process of the technology systems to scan and input data, but if can use a phone/tablet then you can use this!!!
Once the sale has finished you may head to one of the other saleyards to prepare stock for the next days sale, therefore you will certainly have a variety of stock to work with!


Student Requirements

You must be passionate about the Agricultural Industry and keen to learn and show initiative.
You will need to be physically fit and able to work in varied work conditions.

Dress Requirements

Workwear including safety boots, with attention to weather conditions ie sunhat, wet weather gear
All PPE will be provided

Special Transport Requirements

You will be required to travel between saleyards, and possibly within saleyards at times therefore a Travel Arrangement Form will be required.
