Central Goldfields Shire - Depot

Housed within the Operations Unit at Central Goldfields Shire Council, this Depot placement is ideal for students who enjoy working with or are interested in vehicles!
Students will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff and gain an insight into the various roles within the department whilst being provided with opportunities to experience first-hand basic technical skills.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain an understanding of the role the Depot plays within the Council and may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on work placement including general employability skills such as:
• Communication
• Teamwork

• Following instruction
• Working under supervision
• Working in real-life scenarios
The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their secondary school studies they include:
• Gaining hands-on practical experience
• Industry specific OH&S
• Observing and learning from industry qualified and experienced professionals
• Planning and organising
• Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation.
• Liaising and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, customers, and suppliers.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Student tasks and duties will vary depending on the time of year and if any events are taking place at the time of placement. Students may assist or observe trained staff with ‘some’ the following activities:
• Understanding the breadth and depth of equipment and mobile plant at the depot and what they are used for
• Understanding where the work comes from
• Changing oil and replacing oil filters
• Minor mechanical maintenance
• Administration
Student Requirements
Students should have a keen interest in the vehicles! Students should arrive on time, be willing to listen and learn, and show initiative.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the employer at form signing and providing sizing information as appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with WHS policy and work procedures.
Students must wear protective clothing e.g., work pants/shorts, long sleeved shirt (nothing precious as you may get dirty).
Other items including steel cap work boots, gloves and vests will be provided by Central Goldfields Shire Council (and students are able to keep the boots!). Long hair must be tied back, and no dangly jewellery.
Special Transport Requirements
Students will need to make their own way to Operations Depot 72 Burns Street, Maryborough.
