Aspire to work in the education sector as an Integration Aide - Education Disability Support Worker Assistant ? This opportunity is at a Prep to Grade 12 school located in Mildura. The Mildura Specialist School is located in the north west of the state in a rural area and caters for students aged 5-18 years with an intellectual disability either mild, moderate or severe, often with associated sensory and motor impairments. A number of students have vision and or hearing impairment. A quarter of the student cohort has a dual diagnosis of Autism and Intellectual Disability. A number of students have physical disabilities affecting mobility and complex medical needs including those who have a PEG feeding system, Anaphylaxis, Asthma and Epilepsy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to gain Work Experience (WE Opportunity) as an Integration Aide - Education Disability Support Worker Assistant within disability education. The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 or VCE student interested in gaining experience in Community Services, Education and Training. Students will be working alongside a supportive team of qualified teachers and staff.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As an Integration Aide - Education Disability Support Worker Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified staff. The student may assist teaching staff to create, set-up, run and pack-up classroom activities. You may provide support to students under teacher supervision while practicing and embracing the school's values. You may be required to supervise students outside of the classroom on the playground, during bathroom breaks, at lunch time and on field trips. You will also be required to undertake general administration duties.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Community Service, Training and Education in the Disability Sector who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their school subjects relating to Community Services, Allied Health or Early Childhood Education and Care.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Community Service, Training and Education in the Disability Sector and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times.
• Neat professional casual attire is required.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed work shoes.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
