This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience working at a public library!
If you enjoy books, being organised and helping others this is the placement for you. There’s more to libraries than just processing books, this opportunity will expose you to a variety of duties required to run a successful library and community service.
You will be working with a caring team of library staff assisting with a variety of duties including front and back of house library operations, collection management, customers service, cleaning, administration/maintenance as require and potentially assisting in delivering a variety of interesting library activities.
A positive, open, willing to learn attitude and good communications skills are required.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Whilst on placement students may undertake a range of tasks and duties such as:
• Customer service – observing and taking part in customer service (depending on level of confidence and competency)
• Receipt of returned books and magazines, checking databases
• Sorting returned books and restocking shelves
• Cataloguing new and old books and magazines
• Preparing displays and programming set up
• General administration tasks as instructed
Student Requirements
Students must have a genuine interest in working within a community service facility. They must be patient and courteous as a public library provides a diverse and supportive community service.
Students must enjoy meeting and talking with people from diverse backgrounds and providing a courteous customer service experience.
Students must also have excellent attention to detail as accurate shelving and returns processes are critical in a library environment.
Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Neat, casual clothing e.g., closed in shoes that are comfortable and, sleeved shirts (no ripped jeans or slogan t-shirts). If you do not have these items, you can wear your school uniform.
