Compliance Assistant

Housed within the Infrastructure, Assets and Planning Directorate at Central Goldfields Shire Council, this placement within Statutory Services provides students with an opportunity to assist the compliance team in Animal Management and Local Laws. Students will observe Compliance Officers in their everyday work schedules including Pound duties, Animal Management and Local Laws.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain an understanding of the role statutory services plays within the Council and may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on work placement including general employability skills such as:

The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which may include:
• Understanding the wide range of activities that the directorate undertakes e.g., Guiding the council towards fair and ethical operations
• Understanding the value from debriefing and implementing continuous improvement to service delivery
• How to keep up with relevant regulations and implement policies and procedures
• Planning and organising
• How to respond to a range of animal and pet concerns
• Investigation of reports and complaints
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of staff assisting with general administration duties across a range of areas while gaining an insight into working in Local Government.
Animal Management - While on placement, students will assist the staff with animal care related activities which may include:
• Providing environmental enrichment to animals
• Hygiene and care routines
• Grooming, cleaning cages and animal environments
• Providing feed and water
• Record keeping
• Animal call outs including domestic animals and livestock
Local Laws - Assisting Compliance Officer with the investigation of:
• Litter reports
• Unsightly properties
• Burning off
Completing all related placement tasks as assigned by Central Goldfields Shire Council trained staff.
Student Requirements
Students must be punctual, have a willingness to learn, take initiative and be aware that they will be representing the Council particularly when working in public spaces and attending business meetings.
Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Neat and smart clothing appropriate for the workplace with closed shoes e.g., no sport shoes, jeans or t-shirts.

Public transport is available.
