City of Casey provides a wide variety of essential services and infrastructure for close to 400,000 residents, from sport and leisure facilities and family and children’s services, to advocating on behalf of the community and planning for future challenges. There is a wide array of roles undertaken at City of Casey ranging from town planners, building surveyors and engineers to maternal and child health nurses, kindergarten teachers, customer service operators and event coordinators.
The Smart Cities, Innovation and Improvement department at the City of Casey focuses on integrating technology and innovative practices to enhance the community's liveability, sustainability, and economic opportunities. They lead initiatives like the Smart Casey Launchpad, which uses sensors, AI, and data platforms to improve efficiency and resilience in the region. This department plays a crucial role in driving smart city action, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that Casey remains a leader in digital connectivity and sustainability.

Students will gain knowledge of the following skills required when working in the Smart Cities team, technical, organisational, communication, administrative, analytical and collaboration.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Helping to review and monitor smart technology installations and analytics
Supporting the development of the open data platform
Attending Innovation and Improvement workshops and supporting with organisation/administration
Helping to organise the Innovation festival
Supporting the development of communications related to Our Ways of Working
Learning to map processes
Managing an inbox
Helping to administer Promapp
Student Requirements
Students will be respectful, professional and courteous at all times. Students are asked to come on time with an enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn.
A basic understanding of common tools like MS word and Excel would be helpful. Interpersonal skills like having conversations and listening would be beneficial so that students can get the most out of the placement.
