Jointly Mildura are offering a Work Experience opportunity (WE Opportunity) as a Carpentry Trades Assistant in the Building and Construction Industry.
Jointly are a Victorian based Commercial Builder with offices in Melbourne, Mildura and Shepparton. We pride ourselves on delivering complex projects. With a wide range of project experiences, our dedicated inhouse team of carpenters, project managers and administrators work seamlessly together to bring a client’s projects to life. Our point of difference lies in our approach to delivering projects, which starts with our highly experience project management team and is finished with our own internal site-based teams of carpenters and supervisors ensuring every detail during construction is accounted for.
Work placement Location: 92 Deakin Avenue, Mildura Vic 3500.
The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student wanting to gain work placement experience and develop skills.
This is a great opportunity for a student looking to experience as a Carpentry Trades Assistant to gain industry knowledge and trade-based learning experience with a highly regarded Commercial Building and Construction Company in the Northern Mallee region.

Typical Tasks & Duties
The student as a Carpentry Trades Assistant will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified tradespeople to complete construction work on commercial sites.
The student may observe and assist with the following tasks and duties;
• Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry.
• Plan and organise work.
• Conduct workplace communication.
• Carry out measurements and calculations.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
• Use carpentry hand tools.
• Safe handling and use of plant.
• Erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on ground.
• Handle carpentry materials.
• Handle construction materials.
• Apply basic leveling procedures.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards the Building and Construction Industry as a Carpentry Trades Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their school subjects relating to Building and Construction.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Construction Industry as a Carpentry Trades Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Prior to applying for a SWL Placement the student must.
• Be enrolled and completing the VET subject, Certificate II in Building and Construction.

Student Responsibility to;
Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (White Card), please note: obtaining the White Card is required prior to attending the work placement.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present in a neat and hygienic manner in the following work attire;
• Work pants or work shorts.
• Hi visual shirt, long sleeve.
• Steel capped work boots.
• Wide brim hat.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
