Typical Tasks & Duties
Reading and interpreting building plans to understand project requirements
Measuring and cutting bricks or blocks to precise specifications using hand tools or machines
Mixing and applying mortar to lay bricks in rows, arches, or patterns
Constructing walls, partitions, and foundations using bricks, concrete blocks, or stone
Checking alignment with spirit levels and plumb lines to ensure structures are straight and level. Cleaning excess mortar and maintaining a tidy work area
Student Requirements
Minimum Education: Completion of Year 10 is typically required.
White Card: You must complete a general construction induction course to get your White Card, which is mandatory for entering any construction site3.
Physical Readiness: Bricklaying is physically demanding, so good fitness and hand-eye coordination are important.
Basic Literacy and Numeracy: Some programs require a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test to ensure you're ready for the coursework.
Dress Requirements
Safety Boots, appropriate attire for a tradie.
Special Transport Requirements
Student will need to make arrangements with the employer regarding transport and if employer is picking up student the travel form must be completed by employer, student and parent.
