Skills You Might Learn

Students will attain skills in:

- Safe work practices in the workplace. Basic electrical tasks.
- Identifying and selecting components, assisting electrical trades workers, learning about sustainable energy solutions and gaining an understanding of current industry trends and needs.
- Adhering to OH&S policies
- Assisting in LED tube upgrades (schedule 34); high bay & low bay upgrades; flood lights; roughing in houses.
- Feeding cables; fitting off switches, lights & power points.
- Assisting in installing air conditioners; ovens; hot water units; cook top; LED panels.
- Using volts sticks / hand drills / electrical tools / scissor lift.
- Reading plans; measuring to ensure accurate placement of installation.
- Wiring for split systems.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist with electrical installations, working as part of a team to ensure safety and good workmanship. Using industry terminology and developing a strong product knowledge that is specific to the Electrical industry will be central to the role.

Dress Requirements

Students should ensure that they wear steel-capped work boots, pants, hi vis jacket and safety work gear.

Special Transport Requirements

The student would be required to make their own way to the work site. The employer would let the student know where the work site would be.
