This Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) as a Sport Development Officer Assistant with the Aligned Leisure - Mildura Waves is an ideal placement for a student currently studying in Sports, Aquatics and Recreation to gain skills with leader in the field.

The SWL placement will provide students with the skills and knowledge to work in the sport, aquatic or recreation industries. Employment opportunities reflect roles such as recreation officer, activity operation officer, sport and recreation attendant, community activities officer or leisure services officer.

The Mildura Waves Aquatic and Leisure Centre is Mildura’s home for aquatics, health and wellbeing and fitness, comprising two indoor pools including wave pool and 25m lap pool, seasonal outdoor 50m pool, spa, sauna and gym; including group fitness and personal training services. Whatever your age, fitness or skill level, our facilities can help you achieve your fitness goals, learn to swim, play sport or socialise with friends. The centre is an important community asset provided to the Mildura community by the Mildura Rural City Council and is managed by Aligned Leisure. Aligned Leisure is a 100% owned subsidiary company of the Richmond Football Club, established as a vehicle to manage the operations of Richmond’s health, fitness and leisure business activities.

The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying Sports, Aquatics and Recreation as part of their study program, to gain skills with a very busy Community Service Provider.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student as a Sport Development Officer Assistant will undertake duties as part of a professional and hardworking team in the Sports and Recreation, Fitness and Administration areas. The student will complete basic administrative duties as well as sport, recreation and fitness tasks as instructed. The student will work under the direct supervision of the Supervisor in charge.

Sport, Recreation and Fitness tasks and duties include;
- Follow OH&S Safe Management System.
- Maintain sport and recreation industry knowledge.
- Develop knowledge of coaching
- Provides skills and knowledge to work in the sport and recreation industries.
- Participate in sport specific activities.
- Assist to plan and conduct events, outdoor recreation and fitness programs.
- Conduct coaching with foundation level participants.
- Follow instructions in an emergency situation

Administration tasks and duties include;
- Contribution to health and safety of self and others.
- Deliver customer service.
- Work effectively in a business environment.
- Process and maintain information.
- Handle mail.
- Communicate verbally and electronically.
- Produce and alter simple documents.
- Participate in sustainable work practices.

Student Requirements

Students who show genuine interest in the Sports, Aquatics and Recreation Industry as a Sport Development Officer Assistant are strongly encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop industry specific skills.

Whilst the student is attending the work placemen they are expected to:
- Dress appropriately
- Maintain personal hygiene
- Be punctual
- Follow instruction
- Demonstrate interest by participating in tasks and work duties
- Act in accordance with OH&S standards
- Work within a team
- Respect and personal property
- Demonstrate industry knowledge
- Take their Log Book to placement each day

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times, with emphasis on maintaining comfort and ability to participate in physical demands where necessary.
- Neat Casual sports attire
- Non-slip enclosed shoes
- Avoid graphic tees/jumpers

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
