This work experience placement provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the aviation maintenance industry, specifically focusing on helicopters. Students will observe and assist qualified engineers and technicians in maintaining, inspecting, and repairing helicopter components, gaining insight into aviation safety standards and maintenance practices.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Assist with basic maintenance tasks under supervision (e.g., cleaning parts, basic tool handling, organizing workspace).

Observe helicopter inspections, repairs, and routine servicing.

Help with documentation and record-keeping of maintenance activities.

Learn about helicopter components, systems, and maintenance schedules.

Support ground crew in preparing helicopters for flight operations (where applicable).

Student Requirements

Must be a current student (typically Year 10 or above).

Obtain parental/guardian permission.

Complete necessary school documentation for work experience.

Provide proof of having completed a basic safety induction (Safe@Work module or equivalent).

Dress Requirements

Wear neat, tidy, and practical clothing suitable for a workshop environment.

Long pants (no shorts), closed-toe safety boots or sturdy shoes.

High-visibility vest or shirt (if required by the facility).

Avoid loose clothing, jewelry, or accessories that could pose safety hazards.

Bring personal protective equipment (PPE) if specified (some facilities may provide this).

Special Transport Requirements

Students are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the facility each day.

Ensure arrival at least 10–15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Plan travel in advance and discuss with parents/guardians or school if assistance is needed.
