The Lime Box Cafe

The Limebox Cafe’ provides a working environment that is state of the art, fully equipped commercial kitchen, where the students will be participating in making all of the menu items for the cafe’ as well as learning everything that’s required regarding their catering schedule. Students will be learning how to make baked goods, artisan/gourmet provedore stock like relish, jams, preserves, dressings, food for the cafe and food preparation for catering for small groups and events. The cafe is as social enterprises so all student activities will be contributing back to the community; whilst learning skills in the hospitality industry.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will extend their knowledge of the hospitality industry and build the necessary skills to work effectively in a busy catering and café environment. Key skills include but not limited to : food hygiene, food handling, OH&S practices, customer service, team-work, communications, barista skills, time management and the development of good organisational, prioritisation and multi-tasking skills.

Typical Tasks & Duties

You will be working as a team to prepare food for the cafe, actively practicing: excellent hygiene, food handling, cleaning and sanitising kitchen and work areas, quality checking and sorting of food produce, preparing food for service, preparing food for storage, making coffee with a coffee machine, cleaning and sanitising of equipment, baking or cooking a dish whilst following a simple recipe, presenting a dish for service, preparing non-alcoholic drinks.

Student Requirements

No prior experience is required as the employer has a long history of training and supporting students in the work place. Students with learning, social or disability issues are welcome to apply. All students will gain a range of skills suitable for a pathway into the hospitality industry.

Dress Requirements

As required for kitchen work, closed toe shoes, discuss any other requirements with employer.
Black jeans or pants and black top also required. Employer supplies the apron and gloves.

Special Transport Requirements

The LimeBox Cafe is located at The Toomah Community Centre, 18 Golden Green St Pakenham and is located 100 Metres from the Cardinia Road railway station.100 metres from Cardinia Road train station.
