This is a rare opportunity not to be missed, especially if you are interested in retail and pharmacy! Chemist Discount Centre is a local community pharmacy that provides a variety of products and services to improve the health and wellbeing of people in their local community. Students who undertake a placement will have the opportunity to see a range of processes and services within the pharmacy – the placement will mainly be focused on work in the front of shop area and retail operations and there will also be a chance to observe operations in the dispensary.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will have the ability to see how a community pharmacy operates and the different roles and tasks that are completed on a daily basis. Skills that can be gained during the placement include:
- communication skills
- organisational skills
- retail operational skills including; interacting with customers, performing stocktakes, setting up merchandise displays, marking off and putting out stock and maintaining store presentation standards.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Duties will include retail operations including customer service, stock management, visual merchandising as well as cleaning and helping maintain store appearance standards. Students will learn skills required to work well as part of a team, and other work readiness skills such as good time management and communication skills.

Student Requirements

Students will be required to meet with one of the store managers for a brief interview prior to commencing placement. Discuss start and finish times with employer.

Dress Requirements

Black work pants or black skirt and stockings; plain black t-shirt, polo or long sleeve shirt; black closed-toed shoes.

Special Transport Requirements

By Train & Bus: Take the Cranbourne line to Narre Warren Station, then catch Bus 841 to Galloway Dr/Narre Warren-Cranbourne Rd (7 min). From there, it’s a short walk to Blooms The Chemist in Casey Central.
