Silver Lynx is a leading Australian-owned manufacturer based in Glenroy, Victoria, specialising in Australian designed, Australian made bedroom furniture including beds, casegoods, occasional & dining furniture.
Students will work with both the design and production/workshop teams to see how Silver Lynx combines craftsmanship, timber selection, and state-of-the-art production to deliver high-quality bedroom suites that are customised and made to order.

• Industry & Business: made-to-order manufacturing; working with retailer requirements; quality assurance; warranty aspects (5-year warranty) showing product lifespan and standards.
• Workplace Skills: teamwork across departments (design, cabinet making, upholstery, polishers); following safety procedures; time management; adapting to both creative and technical demands.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will have the opportunity to spend time with experienced professional staff, observing or assisting in the following example task and duties under supervision:
• Brainstorming and sketching designs for bedroom furniture collections
• Generating or refining CAD/digital drawings, or concept visuals, to meet customisation options
• Assisting in selection/testing of Australian timbers and veneers and finishes, especially with regard to matching patterns, grain, colour customisation, durability.
• Preparing cutting lists, templates, parts for production, especially for casegoods like bedside tables, chest of drawers, etc.
• Observing or supporting workshop processes: wood machining, cabinet making, polishing, upholstery, finishing.
• Assisting with customisation processes: stain matching, upholstery options, adapting sizes, and options for bed bases
• Learning about supplier relations, lead times, order-based manufacturing
• Maintaining workshop safety, tool cleanliness, and quality control practices in line with Silver Lynx’s standards.
It's important for work placement students to ask questions, seek guidance, and follow instructions from their supervisors to ensure they are performing their duties safely and effectively.

Student Requirements

• Students will need to be prepared to work in a large workshop setting, be ready to learn and show enthusiasm and passion for the job.
• Willingness to learn hands-on skills and work under supervision in workshop environments
• Ability to follow safety instructions and maintain cleanliness / organisation in a workshop

Dress Requirements

Work boots and work clothes.
