This is a great Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) to gain experience in the Creative Industries – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant with a River 1467AM radio station, Mildura. Students will gain experience in a busy commercial radio setting.
The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Music or VET Screen and Media as part of their study program.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant the student will spend time under the direct supervision of qualified and experienced staff assisting with general radio production tasks and duties.
The student may assist in the following tasks and duties including.
- Work effectively in the Creative Arts Industry.
- Apply work, health and safety practices.
- Apply critical thinking skills in a team environment.
- Assist with writing and producing content for a range for broadcasting including radio programs.
- Assist with radio program preparation and research.
- Assist with sound production including sound recording and live production.
- Learn the operations of the studio.
- Complete office tasks and reception duties including general cleaning as directed.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Creative Industries – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subjects relating to Music or Screen and Media.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Creative Industries – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in suitable work attire as follows;
• Neat casual dress is required.
• Closed footwear must be worn.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
