Work experience in childcare provides students with the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily operations of an early childhood setting. Students gain insight into child development, early learning practices, and the responsibilities of educators in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children aged 0–5 years.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Assisting staff with setting up and packing away play and learning activities. Supporting children during play, meal times, rest periods, and transitions. Engaging with children through reading, games, songs, and creative activities. Observing children’s behavior and development under supervision. Helping maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment (wiping tables, tidying toys, sanitising resource) Assisting with outdoor play supervision. Learning about and supporting routines such as toileting, handwashing, and naptime.
Student Requirements
Must complete relevant checks before commencing (e.g., Working with Children Check or equivalent if required in the state/territory). Up-to-date immunisations as recommended by the service. Parental/guardian consent if under 18 years old. A genuine interest in working with children and early learning. Read information booklet that will be provided and on line forms must be completed. Work Experience forms fully completed and signed by student, parent, employer and school uploaded to the online application.
Dress Requirements
Neat, modest, and practical clothing suitable for active work (e.g., polo shirt and pants).
Closed-toe, non-slip shoes for safety. Minimal jewellery and simple hairstyles (to reduce hazards).Name badge or lanyard if provided by the Centre.
Special Transport Requirements
Students must arrange their own transport to and from the childcare service. Options may include public transport, walking, cycling, or drop-off by parent/guardian. Punctuality is required regardless of transport method.
