A great opportunity as a Sports Development and Events Officer Assistant is available at the Mildura Sporting Precinct to complete a Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity placement (SWL Opportunity).

Sport Facilities.
The Mildura Sporting Precinct provides a mecca for sports and events. The purpose built, indoor stadium features six quality, indoor courts which can host several sporting codes, including basketball, netball, volleyball, indoor soccer and badminton. Four additional squash courts, which can also accommodate doubles competitions, adds to the facilities on offer. Outdoors boasts the sports lover’s dream – two quality sporting ovals, capable of hosting everything from football to cricket, soccer, rugby and everything in between.

Events.
The Mildura Sporting Precinct’s upstairs function rooms are a flexible space can be opened up to host larger events, or partitioned off for a more intimate setting.

Work Placement Location: Mildura Sporting Precinct, 684 Deakin Avenue Mildura.

The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Sport and Recreation, Event Management or Business Services.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will may undertake duties as part of a professional and hardworking team in the Sport and Recreation Administration area. The student will complete basic administration duties as well as sport and recreation and events tasks as instructed. The student will work under direct supervision of experienced and qualified staff.

The student may support and assist with the following tasks and duties;
- Contribution to health and safety of self and others
- Deliver customer service
- Work effectively in a sports and recreation and event environment
- Process and maintain information
- Communicate verbally and electronically
- Produce and alter simple documents
- Participate in sustainable work practices
- Organisation of sport and recreation activity and sessions
- Organisation of events
- Assist in the delivery of sport and recreation activity and training sessions
- Follow instructions in an emergency situation
- Maintain industry specific knowledge

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Sport and Recreation who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subjects relating to Sport and Recreation, Event Management and Business Services.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Sport and Recreation and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times.
- Neat Casual attire.
- Non-slip enclosed shoes

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
