A great opportunity exists for a student currently studying a VETDSS subject in Building & Construction and or Furnishing to gain skills with a Cabinet Maker in the Mildura area.

Students with a positive attitude towards Cabinet Making with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a placement to develop skills in the Construction industry. This is an opportunity to gain industry experience with a well respected industry leader in the cabinet making industry.

Skills You Might Learn

Skills that students may gain include, enhanced product and cabinetry knowledge, how to work successfully in a team, the use of machinery and tools relevant to the qualification, safety procedures, improved customer service skills and making new industry contacts.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks on the SWL placement will vary depending on the current job, and also on each student's areas of skill and interest. Tasks may include: basic setting out, understanding workplace documents and plans, recognition and safe handling of selected tools, using calculations for the construction industry, observation of qualified cabinet makers, customer service and team work.

Student Requirements

Whilst the students are attending a work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Participate in business activities as required.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
• Obtained the Construction Induction Card (CI Card).

Dress Requirements

Steel capped boots and appropriate worksite clothing including a high vis shirt and work pants. On-site Personal Protective Equipment supplied by Host Employer.

KMART Mildura is a supplier of appropriate worksite clothing.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and/or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
