Typical Tasks & Duties

The student may be situated regularly in the industrial sector at this placement as Urban H2o specialise in all types of Water Treatment, Industrial and Commercial Plumbing. This would include all aspects of Industrial and Commercial Plumbing and Water Treatment Plants.

The student may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry.
• Carry out interactive workplace communication.
• Carry out measurements and calculations.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Work safely in the construction industry.
• Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
• Prepare to work in the plumbing industry.
• Use plumbing pipes, fittings and fixtures at plumbing installations.
• Use basic plumbing hand tools.
• Use basic power tools.
• Mark out materials.
• Handle plumbing materials.
• Apply basic sheet metal practices.
• Cut and penetrate building materials and structure.
• Fabricate simple plumbing pipe systems.
• Use and apply basic levelling equipment for plumbing
• Perform basic oxy-acetylene welding and cutting.
• Use basic electric welding equipment and techniques.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Construction, Plumbing and Services: In particular Water Treatment, Commercial and Industrial Plumbing with a good understanding of working around moving machinery, plant & equipment, keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VDSS subject in a Certificate II in Plumbing.

Whilst the students is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Have completed the Construction Induction (CI Card) before attending the placement.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Stay focused and be aware of moving machinery, plant & equipment.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (White Card), please note: obtaining the White Card is required prior to attending the work placement.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Work pants
• Work shirt
• Work boots
• Wide brim hat

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

KMART Mildura is a supplier of appropriate Construction, Plumbing and Services worksite clothing.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
