The Special Soccer School has been operating for 25 years with the support of experienced coaches and a director with 30 years of experience as a coach. He is so highly regarded for his work and advocacy in the field he gained the honour of an Order of Australia Medal. This is a great opportunity to learn from the best and put your community services/disability training in to practice in a fun and active setting!
Skills You Might Learn
Working with a range of players with various intellectual disabilities you will learn how to work with and encourage skills of the game. With proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in a team sport, such as soccer.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will assist the coaches and team in soccer skills and encourage players with varying levels of abilities. Games will take place Saturday afternoons with some away games. Helping set up and pack up of equipment, assisting coaches as required, interacting with participants during training and inter club games. Actively joining in with the game and encouraging participants.
Student Requirements
THIS IS A SATURDAY PLACEMENT. Students must have an understanding of people with an intellectual disability and support them in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance. Students must be patient, friendly and understanding and able to work with a range players from primary to middle age group. Some knowledge of soccer would be helpful but not essential. Please note this is a not-for-profit organisation so payment will not be provided for SWL placement.

Suitable for physical activity, soccer boots
