This Mechanic’s Assistant placement will allow students to be based in the Shepparton workshop and work under the workshop manager. Students will gain an insight into the diesel automotive industry and learn the tasks involved in day-to-day operations of a heavy vehicle workshop and general mechanical duties.

Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will gain an understanding of basic diesel mechanics and repair tasks. The student will also have an opportunity to learn workplace communication, safe work practices and how to cooperative effectively in a skilled local team. Duties may include;
- Identify and adhere to OHS procedures relevant to the industry and organisation
- General workshop duties
- Assist with basic mechanical repairs as directed by mechanic
- Use of basic tools relevant to trade
- Cleanup of workshop as required
Student Requirements
A genuine interest in general or diesel mechanics or working with Heavy Vehicles is a must. The student will be willing to learn new skills and take pride in tasks undertaken. The employer values good communication skills, teamwork, punctuality and initiative.
Dress Requirements
Trade clothes, a hi vis op and safety boots are required in the workshop. During summer a hat is recommended.
Special Transport Requirements
Students will require own transport. Public transport may be available to location.
