This opportunity will provide the successful student interested in engineering, fabrication or machining hands on experience in a well-known Engineering business. This opportunity is for a block period only. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to achieve competence that will enhance their employment prospects in the engineering related industries.

Produce basic engineering components/products
Observe a job from start to finish and document the processes involved
Create an inventory of tools used, detailing which employee positions use each. Where possible create a data base of tools and their use
Photograph tools and mechanical process where possible
Stock take the materials used in the business
Perform basic calculations necessary to complete tasks

Student Requirements

Whilst the students are attending a work placement they are expected to:
Dress appropriately
Maintain interest and participate in work duties
Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner
Be punctual
Follow management instructions
Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
Work within the team
Listen and take advice from fellow workers
Participate in business activities as required
Respect other people’s belongings
Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference
Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course
Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

Steel capped boots
Long pants
Long shirt
Any other PPE to be supplied by Host

Special Transport Requirements

Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
