Skills You Might Learn
Students may have the opportunity attain a broad range of skills while on work placement. These may include valuable general employability skills such as:
- Problem solving
- Initiative and enterprise
- Planning and organising
Students may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their studies such as:
- Hands-on practical experience
- Observing and learning from industry qualified and experienced professionals
- Working in real-life scenarios and environments
- Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business
- Liaising and working with colleagues, bosses, customers/clients and suppliers.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Typical task and duties may include but not limited to, engage in all activities of the centre, contribute to the reflection book, interact and play with the children and programming and planning is encouraged.
To consume this placement you should have an interest interacting with children. You can be studying VCAL or VETiS.
A volunteers working with children’s check is required, this is a free process that can be completed online.
Students are required to apply using the Save the Children’s volunteer application process. This involves completing the pack and returning it to Trudy Fuller at Save the Children, you will then be rang for an interview, where the remaining of the process will be explained. From consuming this opportunity please allow 4 weeks for the paperwork process to be complete, plan your placement for a month down the track.
Students should wear neat casual clothes that are easy to move around in. Due to the nature of work where bending down to children is required, you should ensure your top is not to low or loose fitting around the neck.
Special Transport Requirements
Save the children has a local Shepparton and Mooroopna town bus that picks up children, if need be you can access this to get to the centre. Other options include local transport which can be found at www.shepptransit.com.au or for Vline transport options visit www.vline.com.au
